Last night I was privileged to spend time with some seasoned minister’s wives, and some other ladies who are more like me — new to this whole ministry wife thing, feeling ill-equipped, etc. It was good for my soul. I cannot imagine what this season would look like if I didn’t have these women to turn to for wisdom and encouragement. Don’t get me wrong now — I’m not saying that a “minister’s wife” is an official position with things to learn and do. What I am saying is that my husband’s role and the things he faces at work are different, and makes our home life different than most. I’m okay with this, but I’m still figuring it all out, and I’m thankful for women who have figured more of it out and are willing to help me and others along.
All of this is to say that I woke up today feeling pretty good about our marriage and feeling pretty confident in God about our church. As soon as I was at rest in these areas though, I read this article about the economy and the certain doom of America’s future. Since I am easily anxious, I began to worry and wonder what to do to prepare. Before I could worry for too long, though, one of Kathryn’s Hide ‘em in Your Heart songs came to mind, and I was reminded not to worry about tomorrow, for it will worry about itself. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap, or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” Oh, my faith is so small, but my God is so big. When will I learn to trust?
