Christian Dating News & Commentary

We had a board meeting tonight.  Board meetings always get my gears going and thoughts turning in my head.  They make me think.

Here are some thoughts, emotions, and things running through my head after tonight’s meeting.

  • Students are looking for work all over the place.  I know there is a shortage on jobs for the generation below me but I also know that people are picky.  In high school I wanted to drive so I took orders at McDonald’s until I found something better.  I spent a lot of time looking for a job as a youth.  A few months ago I talked to a student who didn’t take a job at Family Video because, get this, they would make him shave off his goatee if he took the job.  Incredible.
  • I am praying by the minute for my wife.  I’ll explain more on it later when the time is right to share what we are going through.
  • ‘Tis the season to drive.  A lot of people are on vacation.
  • People are asking questions about the scriptures, about life, about God.  Some of those people are Christians, some aren’t.  Regardless, people are discussing God, His word, and this life we live.  Some people want an answer on how to live their live.  They are looking for someone to tell them, “This is how the world works, just do it, don’t think.  Don’t question.”  Some people would rather question and grow through questions and discussions leading back to Jesus.  It all comes back to Jesus.  Jesus asked the “why” question on the cross.  I think we need to do the same at times.
  • Just because someone can tell me the plan of salvation doesn’t mean they are a sure shot for the kingdom of heaven.  A lot of people who have “accepted Jesus as their personal savior” are destined to go to hell.  We need to preach relationship with Christ, not the religion of “the prayer”.
  • Are we answering people or just telling them the answer that we “think” is right?
  • People constantly surprise me.  The more I think about a “contemporary” service I wonder if its not just the young people who are looking for a change.
  • We need to give people a church that they are excited about.
  • Someone will always be mad when you change something.  You have to be willing to count the cost.  Growing means losing something.  Sometimes that loss is the one thing you thought was the strongest.

What are you processing?
